Matahari (the "Company"; stock code: "LPPF") is committed to ensuring that all people with equal value can work at Matahari regardless of gender, race, religion, or physical condition and today the Company launches the Teman Difable Program. This program is intended for people with disabilities (with special or unique needs) who will be trained, empowered and eventually become Matahari employees. In collaboration with the Department of Manpower, Department of Social Affairs, and other related institutions, Matahari provides an opportunity to "learn while working" in the retail industry, tailored to the abilities and strengths of each participant.
“We respect and embrace the unique abilities that make our employees who they are, understanding that their qualities are what make Matahari a stronger, more competitive, more thoughtful and more effective organization. As part of Matahari’s ESG journey, we are pleased with this initial step and we hope that this program will be sustainable and impactful for more people with special needs,” said Terry O’Connor, Matahari CEO.
The first wave of the Matahari Disabled Friends Program in 2023 will take place in three Matahari stores, namely The Park Sawangan, Pondok Gede, and Kramat Jati. The six selected participants live near these stores. The Company provides 6 months of training for all participants and appoints an Assistant Store Manager as a Buddy for each participant. This Buddy will provide information, direction, assistance and guidance to the participants during the program. Matahari will ensure the readiness of each participant to enter the world of work at this fashion retail company independently and with full responsibility.
Before officially launching the Teman Difable Program, Matahari has employed two workers with special needs who have performed very well. Mulyana, who has a physical disability, now works as a Store Manager at Matahari Central Plaza Lampung. Another one is Lia Marliani who is deaf and is a Sales Associate at Matahari Tasikmalaya. Matahari is committed to providing every employee with the access, resources, and opportunities needed to succeed in their work and the Company will provide more job vacancies, a supportive work environment, and equal opportunities for people with different abilities in the future.
