Matahari Luncurkan Program Manajemen Limbah Tekstil

Matahari Launches Textile Waste Management Program

As part of its efforts to prioritize the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) sector, Matahari ("the Company"; stock code: "LPPF") in collaboration with Asia Pacific Rayon launched a textile waste management program on November 16, 2022. As part of Matahari's Sunrise ESG Project, this program encourages Matahari customers to participate in reducing textile waste through the recycling process for a better environmental future. In the first phase, this program focuses on Denim Trade-In Nevada which is implemented in three Matahari stores, namely Supermal Karawaci (Tangerang), Metropolitan Mall (Bekasi) and Ciputra Mall (Jakarta).

“Matahari is committed to reducing the amount of clothing that ends up in landfill. We are also working to manage improvements in textile waste management, so that it can ultimately benefit those in need. Therefore, Matahari is very excited to work with Asia Pacific Rayon and its sorting partners, who have tremendous experience and expertise in this area and are committed to recycling fabric sustainably,” said Terry O'Connor, Matahari CEO.

“In line with our goal of supporting the sustainable Indonesian fashion and textile industry, Asia Pacific Rayon is pleased to support Matahari to hold this environmentally friendly program. We provide recycling facilities in the form of two drop boxes in each store with clear instructions for the collection of used denim from Matahari customers. We are confident that this program will contribute to reducing the amount of 26 tons of textile waste in Indonesia through the process of sorting, tracing, and chemical recycling,” explained Basrie Kamba, Director of Asia Pacific Rayon.

As a continuation of the rebranding effort, Matahari continues to improve its work areas and stores to be environmentally friendly. Matahari increases the number of environmentally friendly products, uses biodegradable shopping bags and has provided paper bags to all its stores. The company also uses more energy from renewable resources. Matahari will continue this textile waste management program to other stores throughout Indonesia.

“We care about the planet we live in and through this Nevada Denim Trade-In program, we invite loyal Matahari customers to be part of the change for a better environment,” Terry added.
